Community and Groups
Organized effective altruism activities in Finland
Effective Altruism Finland ry
Our mission is to grow a community in Finland that is aware of effective altruism, puts it into practice in their lives and helps others to do good with impact. EA's organisations in Finland bring people together to discuss ideas about effective altruism and organise activities that support direct impact and effective giving.
Activities
We organise various events throughout the year to raise awareness of effective altruism in Finland and to support more effective philanthropy. Everyone interested in effective altruism is welcome to join us!
The discussion evenings will delve into topics related to effective altruism such as personal values, effective means of influence, animal rights, goal setting and longtermism. Throughout the year, we also organise training sessions and camps.
Highlights from our activities:
We provide career advice.
We organise an intro programme with local groups, a multi-week introductory course on effective altruism.
We organise various events, workshops, panel discussions and reading circles.
We support the creation and growth of new groups in Finland and work closely with other local EA groups.
We maintain the Finnish-language website Lahjoittaminen.fi on effective giving.
We work closely with the Nordic effective altruism communities.
The best way to keep up to date with our events is to follow our events calendar on the homepage and join our email list.
EA Finland uses Telegram as its discussion platform. Join the channel.

Dmitrii Gusev
Hi, I'm Dmitrii, the chair of EAFI. I study Computer Science at Aalto University. I found EA through my interest in AI alignment and have been part of the EA community for over 2 years, being active both in Aalto EA and EAFI. Most of my free time is dedicated to EA and AI safety, and I’d gladly talk about either.

Vesa Hautala
Hi, I’m Vesa, a member of the EA Finland board. I work at Christians for Impact as a career advisor and research coordinator. I’ve been involved with EA Finland for over five years now in various roles as a board member, organiser, and an employee and also with my local group in Tampere. In terms of my EA interests, I’ve been mainly involved in the meta and community building space so I’m broadly interested in many different cause areas.
-

Sara Mansnerus
Hi, I’m Sara, the secretary of the board. I study law and I’m interested in the rights of other species, social justice and the impacts of AI on democracies and power concentration. I like reading this and that, especially parodies and satire.
-
Alva Anttonen
Hi! I’m Alva, the treasurer of EA Finland. I’ve been involved in building the Finnish EA community for over five years both in Aalto EA and EAFI. I’m interested in the best visions and plans on how to improve the world, and I’ve found many through EA.
-
Xylix Pelttari
Hi! I’m Xylix.
I’m interested in finding good solutions for problems that matter. I think the world could be much better for everyone. And this is also my largest pulling factor towards effective altruism.
I have a couple years of experience in EA Finland’s board and other activities. For my other experience, I have studied computer science, worked in software, startups, and done entrepreneur stuff. Recently I’ve been trying to figure out what is actually going on in artificial intelligence currently, and separately what good futures could look like.

Tea Tönnov
Hi, I'm Tea. I've been involved with EA for a few years while living in Brussels, and it's been nice to find an EA community here in Finland as well. I am particularly concerned about the suffering of farm animals and global health. I also think a lot about longtermism and the future of humanity in the age of artificial intelligence, but perhaps with less emotion. I am interested in cognitive biases and cultural narratives that prevent the reduction of suffering. I have studied process engineering and I work at a sustainability department of an industrial company.

Kauri-Viljar Vahter
Hello! I'm Kauri-Viljar, a board member of EA Finland.
I study computer science at the University of Helsinki. I found EA when I started my studies in 2022. I have several years of volunteering experience in various student organizations. I hope that experience will be valuable to EA Finland.

Mikko Kangassalo
Hello! I’m a deputy board member of EA Finland and current Chair of EA Tampere. My educational background is in Philosophy and Internet Studies, with a subject teacher’s qualification to also teach Psychology and Life Stance Education. After graduation, I have been working on an independent monograph; examining how divisive ideas spread disproportionately on social media and what could be done to mitigate that by better platform design. I’m also interested in cosmopolitan virtue ethics, meditation/mindfulness, and global mental health. Within EA, I’m also curious about integral altruism (int/a).
-

Ville Kokko
Hi. My name is Ville, and I’m a deputy member of the board.
I’ve been involved with EA Finland for some years, and I’m trying to get EA activities started in my home city of Turku. I finished ym Ph.D. in philosophy at the end fo 2025, I’m studying computer science, and now I’m trying to get started (mainly: to get funded) a project where I’d be researching the philosophy of artificial intelligence in a way related to AI safety. I’m also interested in many other topics, especially tackling systemic problems.
-

Soili Kasanen
Hi! I`m Soili Kasanen, deputy member of the board. I`m a physician practicing lifestyle medicine at NHS Eloisa. Aiming for the root causes of different problematic issues is my passion. Therefore I`ve created a science based home page Kasasen kootut, which contains information about lifestyle medicine and especially about nutritional studies. Also the rights of non-human animals are dear to me.
-

Ville Seppälä
Hi! I’m Ville, deputy board member and communications person. I’m an economist by education and have worked on climate change stuff and data visualizations. Now I’m especially interested in longtermism and existential risks in general, and those interests have made me take part in EA for about a year now.
